Donate blood and save a human life

The founder of Gorata.Bg – Nikola Rakhnev, organized a blood donation campaign on 30.07.2021 to save the life of a child in need. Many volunteers responded to the National Center for Transfusion Hematology and helped save lives, and we at Drop Down Community became part of the campaign.

Who can donate blood?

Any healthy person between the ages of 18 and 65 can donate blood, the amount of which is limited from 160 ml to 450 ml. Men can donate blood up to 5 times in a calendar year, women – 4 times, and the interval between two donations should be at least 2 months.

It is important to know that blood donors cannot be:

people with infectious diseases;
people with autoimmune diseases;
people who have diabetes;
people who have had blood transfusions in the next 6 months;
people who have had bronchitis, pneumonia in the recent past;
people who have heart and / or liver problems;
mothers or nursing mothers;
people with anemic diseases;
people with acute rheumatism, glaucoma, psoriasis, allergies;
people who took aspirin (two days before the blood donation), as well as people who abused alcohol, cigarettes, drugs (two days before the blood donation).

How to prepare for blood donation?

2-3 days before the act of blood donation it is good to eat more often and very varied, because it will strengthen your body and increase blood quality. You should know that blood donation should not be done on an empty stomach – you should have eaten at least 4 hours before. Get a good rest, and after the blood donation, try to drink more fluids and foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals.
